Celebration Circles for Creative Women
What you create is healing. It matters. But it’s hard to stay motivated and give your creativity its full due in this heartbreaking world. You may feel like self-doubt holds you back. You may feel like nobody cares about what you create. You may feel like you just can’t carve out the time and energy for your passions. Or you may get sucked into the cultural myths about things needing to be popular and money-producing in order to be valuable.
As a singer-songwriter, writer, and teacher, I know what it’s like to be seeped in the doubts and the difficulties. I’ve had my moments of curling up in a ball on the kitchen floor when sharing my art seems too hard. I have found practical ways to pull myself up again and rest in my inherent worth as an artist. Over the last 15 years I’ve shared these strategies with hundreds of students and empowered them to step into their creative calling.
Recently I felt the spark of inspiration to take that motivational magic into a group program-and the Celebration Circle seeds were sown. You are invited to be a founding member in this affordable and empowering experience, where you will:
-Learn how to reconnect with your ever-flowing source of wholeness and creativity inside- the Inner Flame
-Have a safe space to share your works in progress and completed projects, where you get to specify what feedback you want
-Receive coaching and support when you are feeling stuck, discouraged, or uninspired
-Feel heartfelt connection and community as we witness and support each other in a playful, non-judgmental celebratory environment
How It Works:
The Celebration Circle a really simple ongoing program with a maximum of six women so everyone gets individual time to be seen and heard. We will be meeting virtually once a month. At some point, we may switch over to a hybrid: those who live in close proximity would be invited to join me in-person while we simultaneously interact over video with the ladies in other locations. All sessions will be recorded if you are unable to attend live.
The format of the calls will begin with 5-10 minutes of guided meditation, writing, movement, or practice to get us grounded and connected to our source of inspiration. Then I will talk for a few minutes about a topic related to overcoming our creative blocks, such as:
-Working with the inner critic to minimize self-sabotage
-Finding your own embodied pacing for sustainable, fulfilling creative flow
-Dealing with criticism and building self-confidence
-Respecting our needs for rest and inward focus as part of the creativity cycle
-Taking care of the parts of our psyche that are scared of taking expressive risks
-Finding the ways our creativity flows most easily
-Allowing your creative gifts to blossom into a divine offering
After the 15 to 20 minute intro, we will get into the heart of the circle: where each woman gets a turn to share. This can be a work in progress, a completed work, or in improvisation. All creative genres are welcome; you can share an idea, a piece of visual art, a craft project, a video, a poem, writing, a song (original or by another composer), monologue, or dance. At the end, each sharer will specify what kinds of feedback they would like: witnessing, praise and acknowledgment, and/or suggestions. Then, the circle of women will celebrate reflect back the beauty they received from the creative work that was shared.
If you are thinking, “oh no, I can’t finish something every month to share,” don’t worry! You don’t have to share a creative project every time. Fallow periods of rest and creative pause are celebrated too! When you don’t want to share, you have two choices. You can tell us what blocks you are struggling with and receive coaching and support from Sara, as well as encouragement from our sisters. Or, you can just attend to witness your sisters, offer encouragement, and be inspired and energized.
We meet on the third Monday of the month, from 6- 7:30 pm Mountain Time. If you are interested in the program but unavailable at that time, please fill out the contact form below to be put on a waitlist for an additional group at a new time.
Join us in strengthening the power of your creative voice. It takes dedication to create and honor your authentic, heartfelt gifts, and you don't have to brave this journey alone. Stepping into a supportive circle of creative women can give you the courage, motivation, and inspiration to create and share with abandon.
